Sierra Leone is highly exposed to climate change impacts, particularly in rapidly growing urban areas such as Freetown. Informal settlements, limited water and sanitation infrastructure, and inadequate waste management increase vulnerability to flooding and related health risks. To reduce waste in waterways, a floating barrier interceptor has been installed in the Lumly River of Freetown. However, there is currently no sustainable system for managing, processing, or creating value from the collected waste.
